Again... The ONE A DAY Challenge!
Monday, September 11, 2006, 09:31 PM - Music/Books/Film, Art/Design, Language

Ok, I admit, I did this on Saturday, but I am going for the one creation a day again this week.
I suspect that means I have to do two tomorrrow?

(mumbles buggar under her breathe).

So this piece is called "taupe-rider" a play on the word for mole in French and the idea of being the best rider (top-rider). Silly I know.

I was listening to The Book Show today, and heard a poet called Simon Armitage, his work really appealed to me, he had a strange sense of humour. Plus he has re-adapted Homer's Odyssey, which he read a part of, which I am also very interested to read. I will admit that I have always been a little daunted to read the original, but have been wanting to for a while at the same time. So perhaps this is a good introduction?

Told you there would be more boats...

So, my entry today relates to the death of Steve Irwin. It is pretty sad, but at the same time he died doing what he loved, and what more could you ask? So did Peter Brock too I guess.
So this idea comes after I read Irwin's reason for loving animals, yet not ever becoming a vegetarian, let alone a vegan:

SI: I went through a big stage of my life where I thought, you know, maybe it would be better to be a vegetarian, so I researched it. In no uncertain terms did I research it. Let's say this represents one cow, which will keep me in food for, let's say, a month. Now that cow needs this much land and food. Well, you can imagine, that cow needs x by x amount of land, and you can grow trees in it. Around that cow, you can have goannas, kangaroos, wallabies. You can have every other single Australian animal in and around that cow. If I was a vegetarian, to feed me for that month, I need this much land, and nothing else can grow there. Herein lies our problem. If we level that much land to grow rice and whatever, then no other animal could live there except for some insect pest species. Which is very unfortunate.

So, I wonder how long the cow would last with a crocodile?
I based my cow on La Vache Qui Rit (The Laughing Cow), I guess the only link is it is red like that cow, he certainly doesn't look like he is laughing very much. That is a brand of cheese by the way, because, of course, the cow is laughing while it lets the company steal all it's milk.

I really am in an ok mood, you wouldn't know it would you?

HZ-8 : Pirates

So, I became driven after my last entry... and created my submission for Howiezine 8 : Pirates in under 24 hours, (which included a long bike ride which I thought was never going to end, due to the constant wind, which I don't really like, and an unexpected long visit). It will be folded in half, so you will see the lone bird with his flag first and the ship once you turn the page. I am pretty happy with it, we see what happens.

Inspire me thursday
So, I decided, after looking at their site for months, to actually submit something to their "challenge". I did this image on friday morning in the moleskin , yes, it is still hanging around. I want to have it done completely before mid september. That image is inspired by the crow with his cheese (in France). I am sure he has grapes in the English version, anyway, he loses his grapes to the fox who flatters him. Those claws are a bit... umm, rough.

I've just been given the challenge, by Patti of Howiezine to get her something for HZ-8 Pirates asap. I have had a flash of an idea, and I am going to try to get it done tomorrow. I think I need to think about how I do each element over night. It will be another illustration.

So here is my entry for illustration friday for today.
Do I do another?
Perhaps.

By the way, it is my birthday, but I don't really care. I did have a question for you all,
but, I have forgotten it. Oh well.
My last weeks entry for match is telling me it has only 4 views, this morning it had about 80, is there some bug that can't count over 100?
No, there is no problem on some others... oh, doesn't matter.
