I am actually here, but... + Carousel Mag Launch
Wednesday, May 23, 2007, 07:24 PM - Relationships, Work (The Man), Art/Design

So, here I am to entertain, as such... I have been working like a crazy person, for someone else, sadly. But now I have escaped for a week, and am in Brittany with my parents and my man. The sun has come out after a week of rain and bad weather, I managed to get burnt already, as we managed to forget various things worrying about getting my parents organised and into the car, this means forgetting hats and extra pieces of clothing and all sorts of other useful things, like the flash card reader, (I did actually do an image for signs for Illustration Friday, but no matter). I have managed to do some work, coerce my man into doing my Ern Malley translation, and my mind is thinking about doing work for me again. Sadly, I have to go back to work...

Today, we went to the Mont Saint Michel, it was beautiful... apart from the hordes of tourists and the trinket shops and the bad crépes we ate at lunch, but sadly, that's how life is in a high tourist area.

OH... if your in Montreal, your invited to go to the Carousel launch, if you can't read the invite (above), it is at the Hero Gallery on the 1st of June. Leave a comment if want more info.

first friend to visit
Thursday, November 2, 2006, 06:41 PM - Relationships, Art/Design

Ordy visited us yesterday, first Australian to actually come here and see us. We talked each others ears off, I asked her tons of questions, which she told me she didn't mind, in fact she quite liked it (That's what she told me anyway). I honestly haven't seen her since August 2003, as I was slack when we were in Australia. She lives in Melbourne and was also doing some traveling at the time, our paths didn't cross. So we made up for it. I found this little note (part of) when I got back from work.
I have kind of been energised.

swap with Charlene, brief exhibition.

Seems my prints are the most favourite thing about my swaps with people, everyone raves!
This is good I guess.

As you can see, one of my prints had a small exhibition at The Berkley Art Museum. Funny.

illustration friday : change
Sunday, September 17, 2006, 09:31 AM - General, Relationships, Art/Design, Illustration, Illustration Friday

So... well.
I fell down on the one a day challenge. "Work" took over my mind and boring things like needing to eat (that also emcompasses going shopping for food) and going to the osteopath...
So I did start and finish this on friday, but here it is a few days later. The boat rears it's head again, but this time it is up, up and away with a pirate squirrel.

Yesterday I was shocked to hear of a girl that frequently went to the Ateliers d'Editions Populaires on Saturdays died in a car accident on Monday. Just one more prompt to do what you love NOW and not later. Sad, but I don't think she would want us to dwell on her death, she wasn't like that, from what I knew of her.

We saw two movies yesterday, (yes, yes, but they seem to disappear quickly from Lille sometimes). We saw Thank you For Smoking and Water an Indian film set in 1939 about widows and how they are treated in the Indian system because of religious beliefs that it is a sin to remarry if you are a widow. It was beautiful, but very sad.

second day: La Lune
Tuesday, September 12, 2006, 09:37 PM - Relationships, Music/Books/Film, Art/Design

So on my official second day of creation, this is the idea I had while at the party on Saturday night.
It was nice, but there seems to be generally only one thing people like to say to me if they can't really be bothered, or, to be fair, they don't know me, and that is;
"... you speak French well... how long have you been in France?" .
The conversation ends at this point generally. I understand, they had their long term friends there... I'm not fussed. I did have a funny conversation with the man who will probably do our bathroom, about music. He listens to Belgium radio because they don't just play French (or Belgium) music. It is true the French are very patriotic like that. Sadly though, they played The Counting Crows and they all danced to it, with much punching of the air and teeth biting into the lower lip (I am sure you have ALL seen this action)... euuuggghhhh. Nasty.

So anyway... I had a thought of representing the The Ladies (The Magic Flute again) as birds, in a boat, in fact this is the next part of the idea for the moment.

Boats?
I have no idea why so much of my work at the moment has a boat in it... anyone else noticed? But, I am embracing it. So, the tarot cards are back, and even though this card is not finished, (in fact the only thing stuck down is the boat, the lettraset and the white paint on the paper), I am sure I'll have a brain wave tomorrow to finish it and to continue with the next one.
