On TV
Sunday, August 3, 2008, 03:51 PM - General, Relationships, Music/Books/Film, Language, French
So, last Friday, France 3 came to our flat to film a segment on my man's new project COlivri. Today it was shown on the TV, as we don't have a TV we missed it, but supposedly it will be shown tonight as well. It is on line if you want to watch it : COlivri on line. It is in French of course.
Little side note: The photos are by Céline Maes (who doesn't have a website, naughty).

song of the day: "White Caribou" Ponies in the Surf
This is what happens when you have bunyip stories in your head, you need to clean your flat (which you did ALL day, how is it possible?) and you have a new camera to play with. Self portraits! Yes, this is how I feel tonight.
We saw Bienvenue Chez Les Ch'tis last night (sorry, film preview in French, not sure if it would be released in English speaking countries), I was astounded that I understood nearly everything. Sadly, I have had similar experiences here. Pretty hardcore accent here in the North, and well, it was a pretty funny film.

bit of subversion
Friday, June 22, 2007, 07:23 PM - Animals, Work (The Man), Food, Vegan/Vegetarian, Damn Carnies, Language
So, today I am waiting for the colour printer to print my enormous file, and there is a Japanese Design magazine sitting there, from 2005. I see these strange looking Japanese men in their meat propaganda T-shirts and a girl with a cap on that say "killer"... I fucking hope they are joking.
As I can't read Japanese, I can't tell... but something tells me they are... I hope. So I whipped over to the other side of the room, scanned the relevant pages, just so I could share.
Yep, I am going to REALLY swear in this post instead of pretending as I normally do (because, if the truth be known, I swear like a sailor if you let me)... so I have made my own subversive versions of the above comics:
I couldn't help it I'm sorry.
Someone want to tell me if they are joking?

qarrtsiluni is online!
Thursday, April 12, 2007, 07:32 AM - Art/Design, Language
I found I am online! I submitted work to qarrtsiluni and the results are on line now here: Nathan Horowitz and Here : Kate Sheckler.
The poem for the image on the left:
The Island
The Island
at the end of all those other islands,
beads strung by bridges
all end at the dangling rosary of . . .
The Island.
Promises of peace,
like prayers un/answered.
Circumscribed, boundaried, trapped
by lapping limitation.
Here Sirens perch, the white powder of lotus
in outstretched palms.
by Kate Sheckler
The poem for the orcas:
the conference
promotional material
the logo of the company
is a cloud
whose constituent particles
are oceans.
day one
in the afternoon
i look out the window
at the ocean
and see dozens of killer whales.
they begin transforming
leaving the water:
giraffes, bison, elephants, wolves,
fur still black/white.
a woman appears in the room with us,
dressed in black and white;
her skin matches theirs.
day two
i have no memory
of day two.
day three
three of us participants
are standing in the surf
turning into orcas.
our bodies grow, the shape changes,
our heads, even our teeth change,
our hands fan out
and the flesh grows together,
our tails grow out
and split into flukes.
the orcas are out there in the water
inviting us in,
egging us on.
now they're laughing like mad,
because no matter what our skill
in growing fins and tails,
we're still standing there on our legs.
closing ceremony
were plankton really
singing gregorian chants?
i'll be back
next year.

illustration friday : phobia
Sunday, September 24, 2006, 07:26 PM - General, Art/Design, Illustration, Illustration Friday, Language
So we have our pig...
Is he really in a boat?
Is he hallucinating?
Has he really grown some stegasaurus plates?
Is he going to fall out of his boat all the same?
This is a little phobic dedication to Hunter S. Thompson, and to Troy (an old friend, who I heard from but didn't speak to on the weekend, he is in love again, of course, with an Irish girl, even more surprising (ha!)... but that is another story completely). The two are linked somehow, something to do with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas I suspect.
You will be all pleased to know that I am disgusted with my working discipline at the moment, mainly this week. But, (excuses, excuses),I have Tuesday COMPLETELY to myself this week. I am going to go to see Buyse in the morning, but that is perhaps only for a few minutes. I don't think he understood my idea for my next screen print idea.
My French was appauling over the weekend. We had an old friend of Eugène's here and his girlfriend. He is from Carcassonne and used to live in Paris, but has since moved back south, to Toulouse, and has reappropriated his accent. It cracks me up, but, I kept having to ask what people were talking about, and it had nothing to do with accents. I just wasn't listening very well or something. Plus I couldn't seem to explain myself very well either. I guess we have days like that.
I had to reload my ipod last weekend, and I never looked at the software to take the info off an ipod before, wished I did, I have to re-season it, like a wok. It is not good. I didn't lose the music, so I guess I can't be too sad. It does help me cull stuff I dislike anyway.
