unbelievable mess

Ever since the Salon Livres et Presse Jeunesse... I have been loitering around, (when I have been here), seemingly accumulating more and more work on surfaces, wondering about those comments about odd illustrations not being "my style" even though I did them... You just have to see this image to understand (Not all the images you see in the photo are mine). I think I am understanding my style and getting a grasp of not kidding myself into something I am not. I guess when you work as a graphic designer, you get asked to appropriate styles, so perhaps this is why I got a little lost? I have arrived in the clearing! Does that make sense?

I have actually done a decent amount of work today (my protesting, hoop jumping tiger is my work in progress started today).

Done it!
Finally.

I think work is getting to me, I am not sleeping well, and well, that's how it is when you work for someone else who has crazy deadlines I guess. Just so tired, but not sleeping well.
See! repeating myself. Babbling. Fabulous.

more commissioned work

These are two more images done for the 'zine for work (where I have full creative control, I am told). They are remarkably joyous considering what comes out of my brain in my own time. I believe i have just finished the second last, but I am not sure. It's still wet, I'm allowed to be unsure.

Damn my thumping head at the moment. I hate being a girl sometimes.

illustration friday night: don't
Sunday, August 5, 2007, 07:43 PM - Relationships, Music/Books/Film, Work (The Man), Art/Design, Illustration, Illustration Friday Night

This is my piece for Illustration Friday Night, as the title suggests, and I shouldn't assume you are all morons who read my blog. I actually never assumed, so don't worry, don't get a complex. I could be writing away to myself here, then who would be the moron?

I have been hiding in the house all weekend... almost. Not much of a stereotypical Australian, I am pasty, and hide from the sun. I love the heat, unless over 40°C with no wind, but put me in the sun and you'd swear I was some sort of creature of the night (I hope the people at work don't read my blog, they already think this, and not a day goes by without some bullshit vampire / gothic comment). Anyway.

I watched John Safran Vs God in one sitting today (sent to me from my crazy friend Mandy Ord) I finished a few pieces of work, fixed and actually signed some work (My God! What's wrong with me?)... and boring domestic stuff you just don't want to know about like buying food. I hope my man is actually enjoying his holiday in Spain, because I certainly am not... entirely. damn my CDD! (That would be a Contrat à durée déterminée... Merde).

"congratulations on being able to be creative..." ummm.
Thursday, August 2, 2007, 07:07 PM - Music/Books/Film, Work (The Man), Art/Design, Illustration, French

This is one of the first illustrations I have finished for work, but it isn't really finished here because there is an element that is added that isn't launched yet, and because I signed a bloody contract that said they owned me basically, and if I publish anything without their permission on the internet etc, they can come and get me. I accept that, but it is super boring. For this reason, I gave this illustration, in this form, to one of the people I work with, and well, I am going to continue to do this.
Supposedly, due to the conservative nature of the company I am working for, the title of this post is the compliment I got yesterday. It is true, I was pretty surprised when they told me to do what I want, in my style. I guess I have been enforcing illustration on them since I arrived. We see what happens in September when the 'zine is published (it is an in-house publication).

So, the other "compliment" I got today was (while I was trying to do some painting at work instead of working all night for them) that I "débrouilles bien" with illustration. Now, I found this mildly offensive, because French people use that verb débrouiller when they are talking about your crap language skills or something that perhaps you are not very good at. Umm, I figure the person is not good with her turn of phrase, because she has said things to me before in the past, and well, to be honest, I wanted to slap her. So on that note, I shall go away.

I am starting to look at ipods to replace my sad little ipod. It had a good life, I bought it in 2005... it lasted over 2 years with me dropping it, kind of badly a couple of times, using it everyday etc.
I am also looking at covers for this one.
