crumpled

So over the weekend, while the weather was foul, I sewed in between cooking and stuff for the hoardes. Above is the end result, and in fact, I made it for a reason, not to post on my Blue House store, but to send to Crafters for Critters, also with a couple of buttons that I have as well.
Wasn't so thrilled to be back at work today, but, that is what has to be done.

illustration friday : song
Saturday, February 18, 2006, 09:02 PM - General, Relationships, Work (The Man), Art/Design, Illustration, Illustration Friday

So here we go... another old illustration that was never used, but it was the thing that stuck in my head, and just would not budge for anything else. So, I hope that is good enough?

I have had a strange week, I had my hours reduced dramatically and this coming week, (I know it is officially school holidays here in the North of France), but I only have 10 hours of work. "Merde!" is all I can say! Just so frustrating. I am having a meeting with one of my superiors about my teaching style too. Great. looking forward to that.

So due to lack of hours, I am going to set myself a task: one "illustration a day".
This could be hard to stick to all the same, but I am going to do it.
I promise!

Received the nicest thing in the mail today, was actually really honoured to get it. A friend of mine who is intensely creative sent me a little note book, where she wrote stories and stuck photos and drew pictures of the people she was talking about (if she was). It was so heartfelt, I kind of don't know what to say. I want to reply with something similar, but don't want to bore her, or make her feel like I stole her idea, but I feel like I need to honour the gift. A little window into her brain. I have a few letters to write, I am a bit slack. I feel like I have as much attention span as an ADD sufferer, even though I honestly don't think it is a real disease. I need to focus.

We painted the bathroom today, it is so much better, lighter, brighter, feeling more finished, but it was a solvent clean-up paint, and all those years loitering in print workshops didn't make it any easier on my body this evening. I could taste the chemicals and my stomach was churning. Even the big (soy) hot chocolate didn't work... I ate a big dinner and feel much better.

illustration friday : chair
Saturday, February 4, 2006, 05:30 PM - General, Relationships, Work (The Man), Art/Design, Illustration, Illustration Friday

This week we seem to have a slight mixture of topics. I was given this idea of a person being a chair. I immediately thought it had to be some type of cat. So here is my chair, it is also a cat and a card for the person that gave me the idea. Not a bad deal for them. Hopefully they like it.

Since going to the screen printing studio, I seem to have more ideas moving, and have more motivation to do work in my own time. In fact, I have had it with working for money all the time. It is really nice to have money of my own every month, but I am turning into a cauliflower and becoming bitter about it.
So, I am going to talk to Buyse when he gets back from his holidays about perhaps if he knows someone, or even if I can help him one day a week (unpaid or otherwise), so I don't feel like I am wasting my life away. So I might "Down Shift" to 4 days a week. I think it might be a good idea. I am going back to Australia at the end of March for a holiday, so it would be good to start this idea after that I guess. We see what he says. I work for money like a demon until then.

I was so motivated today, I spoke to one of the gallery owners in my street this afternoon! Be shocked!

"The Man"
Thursday, January 19, 2006, 06:31 PM - General, Relationships, Work (The Man), English
We have had some misunderstanding and reproaching in the household this morning. Seems French Boy doesn't understand the term The Man. (see previous post).
I had to explain to him that The Man was the person that you work for (usually). Let's use the Urban Dictionaries first definition:

The Man
The Man is the head of "the establishment" put in place to "bring us down." Though nobody has physically seen "the man," he is assumed to be a male caucasian between the ages of 25-40 and is rumored to have a substantial amount of acquired wealth, presumably acquired by exploiting those whom his "establishment" is "keeping down."
"Damn The Man!" -Victim of the "establishment"

I also liked definition 5:

Dewey Finn (Jack Black) in the movie The School of Rock defines The Man thusly:

"The Man. Oh, you don't know the Man? The Man's everywhere: in the White House, down the hall, Miss Mullins; she's the Man! And the Man ruined the ozone, and he's burning down the Amazon and he kidnapped Shamu and put her in a chlorine tank! Okay! And there used to be a way to stick it to the Man, it was called rock 'n roll. But guess what? Oh no! The Man had to ruin that too with a little thing called MTV! So don't waste your time trying to make anything cool or pure or awesome 'cause the Man's just gonna call you a fat washed up loser and crush your soul. So do yourself a favor and just give up!"
ahem...see above dude

Clearer now my love?

illustration friday : sea
Sunday, January 8, 2006, 08:37 AM - Work (The Man), Illustration, Illustration Friday

This is an old piece I did that is the only thing I can conjure up in my mind about the sea. "The Sea" is a touchy subject in our household at the moment, because of the lack of it.

After a two week break, was back at six hours of grammar company again on friday. The one that gives me the meal I don't eat. I told them that I was "allergic" to lots of things and prefered to bring my own food. I still got the platter, so I kept it, took it home with me and gave it to a homeless person. It was kind of embarrassing how greatful she was. Was pleased I could put it to some use. Hate wasting food.

Coloured the last illustration friday piece, and have decided I liked it more just as a pencil sketch.
C'est la vie.

This blog entry cracked me up today...
